First, thank you for all the positive comments on the July newsletter. I read every email and really appreciate the responses and suggestions.

On Thursday, I hosted six other guys from my wine group for a dinner pairing German Rieslings and a few Pinot Noirs with Asian food. The Rieslings were the highlight of the wines, and surprisingly, several were only 7.5% to 8.5% alcohol. You really would not have known it from tasting them. With lower alcohol wines becoming more common in the market, the evening changed my perspective a bit. I had assumed lower alcohol would mean sacrificing flavor or character, but these Rieslings certainly did not. It has made me more interested in trying other lower alcohol wines to see how they compare with their full alcohol counterparts. As for the food, the hot and sour soup seemed to be the favorite dish of the night.
