This month we had 101 winery updates and 27 wineries releasing wine.

Happy Holidays. This is a wonderful time to open those special bottles, share them around the table, and maybe even win over a few friends or relatives to the joy of wine. This year especially, our industry could use the extra support and appreciation.

Last month I had my friends Joe, Lenny, and Zac up for a day of wine tasting followed by cooking a great meal back at my place. We had a special reason to celebrate too — Zac was about to be sworn in as mayor of Pleasant Hill just a few days later, so we decided to celebrate a little early.

We tasted at Keenan Winery, a family owned estate perched high on Spring Mountain in Napa Valley, known for mountain grown Cabernet Sauvignon and expressive Bordeaux varietals. It was founded in the late 1970s and helped pioneer Spring Mountain as a serious winegrowing region, focusing on volcanic soils, cooler temperatures, and low yielding vineyards that produce structured, age worthy wines. Keenan balances tradition with creativity, pairing classic winemaking techniques with a relaxed, art filled tasting room that reflects the family’s personality and long standing commitment to authenticity, craftsmanship, and a sense of fun alongside serious wine.

The winery’s Artistic Director, Jennifer Keenan, designed the interior with creativity and whimsy in mind, and the bike — specifically a “yarn-bombed bicycle” — was placed above the fireplace as part of her artistic vision to make the space fun, inviting, and unique.
