WineRelease.com's December 15, 2022 Monthly Newsletter.

This month we had 61 winery updates and 89 wineries releasing wine.

Happy Holidays! I hope you're getting excited about the holidays and they are less stressful this year compared to last. We are celebrating Christmas in St. Helena and New Year's in Paris. Fun!

Last month I went to Le Grand Tasting (The Grand Tasting Paris) and sat in on an hour seminar with Paul Jaboulet's winemaker on Friday and a seminar covering the Chateauneuf-du-Pape region on Saturday. Over 65 Bordeaux producers, 20+ Burgundy producers, 50+ Champagne producers and 30 Rhone producers attended the event. On Friday I focused on white wines of Burgundy and Rhone and Champagne. It was a great tasting and some of the producers brought some stellar wines. Joseph Drouhin was pouring their 2016 Joseph Drouhin Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru and it was great but above my budget at $257 a bottle. A few producers brought earlier vintages which was fun to taste the progression. Bordeaux producer Chateau Grand-Puy Ducasse was pouring their 2012 Pauillac and Chateau Meyney poured their 2004 out of magnum. I told the Meyney rep that my first case purchase was their 1989 at $14 a bottle from Draper & Esquin Wine Merchants in San Francisco in 1991. Leoville Barton was pouring their 2009 and 2012. To call it a Grand Tasting is an understatement. I look forward to VinExpo in February.

My friend Antoine (bottom taking the selfie) took the train from Brussels to join me on Saturday. I met Antoine when I lived in Madrid in 2008, he owned a wine shop and I was a frequent visitor (no surprise). We tasted reds for an hour but went to whites. Ioana, the manager of Le Manoir wine store where I shop, told me I'm going soft because of my white wine preference. I laughed and said she should use a different term. How about refined? Advanced? Polished?
