Greetings from WineRelease.
Devastating.
I was awakened Monday morning at 1am by my brother who lives on Big Ranch Road in Napa and told me about the fires.
We went downstairs and turned on the TV to see five fires in the area and the news report saying the fire fighters were evacuating and unable to fight the fires.
Although the fires were 10 miles away, we awoke our friends staying with us and evacuated St. Helena.
Driving down highway 29 past Yountville we turned left on Oak Knoll toward Big Ranch Road to stop by my brother's house.
We encountered the flames engulfing the eastern hills along Silverado Trail. It was surreal experience as it looked like how you picture hell.
Today, almost a week later, the mass devastation these fires have wreaked in Sonoma and Napa counties is mind numbing.
Fortunately, most of the fires are contained and there are no evacuation notices.
We are safe but many others were not so fortunate; losing homes, businesses and even lives.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who have suffered loss and a huge thank you to the fire fighters, police, and first responders who work to keep us safe.
