WineRelease.com's April 15, 2011 Monthly Newsletter.

Greetings from WineRelease.com, now 1,724 winery listings strong!

I went to a dinner at Harris Steak House in San Francisco this week where everyone brought a 1997 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. About 70 people from the online advertising industry attended and I was chosen as the head judge. All of the wines at my table were excellent, no dogs; they all stood the test of time and were drinking beautifully. I would have been happy with any of them. Each table of 8 tasted the wines brought by their respective table-mates and came up with a winner. The individual table winners were submitted to me and two other judges for the "wine of the night". The winners were: 3rd place: 1997 Herb Lamb. Second place: 1997 Groth Reserve and first place went to 1997 Vineyard 29. Although at my table they passed on the 1997 Niebaum Coppola Estate Cask, it was one of my favorites. Because I was a judge, I didn't get to make the final decision of the wine at our table, only the final wines.

The pairing of fine 1997 Napa Cabs with Harris delicious steaks, coupled with great company and lively conversation made for a memorable evening.

Also, as many of you know, my wife and I are based in San Francisco and as a result, are spoiled by our proximity to Napa. With 450 wineries on our doorstep, its hard to find a reason to pack up a case and hit the airport. However variety is the spice of life and lately weve been hearing amazing things about the Rieslings and Cabernets of the Walla Walla valley in Washington state. And now, for the wine......
