WineRelease.com's April 15, 2003 Monthly Newsletter

Happy Tax Day from WineRelease.com, now 783 wineries strong!

I gave up alcohol for lent and thankfully, Easter is just days away. I plan to celebrate with a 1979 Mondavi Cabernet (that is what I have picked out so far). I got a lot of grief from my wine friends as I missed two tastings in the past month (one a 2000 Bordeaux tasting) and several trade tastings. But I did lose some weight in the process. I really noticed that food doesn't taste as good without wine and I am now a firm believer in wine with food.

And now, on to the show...

May 2003 Wine Releases

April's recommended winery mailing lists to join:

Barbour Vineyards
Jim Barbour is one of Napa Valley's premier vineyard managers. In 1995 he decided to make his own small production (50 cases) wine and receives praise from Parker ("The dense blue/purple-colored 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon offers a terrific nose of plums, cherry liqueur, cassis, and subtle oak. It is beautifully pure, with gobs of fruit, low but adequate supporting acidity, and plenty of ripe tannin in the finish." (93 points)) and Tanzer ("Potentially the best wine yet (1999 vintage), by far, from this vineyard").

Leonetti Cellar
Although the current wait is 2 to 5 years for their mailing list, Leonetti Cellars continues to produce stellar red wine from the Walla Walla and Columbia Valleys of Washington state. The Wine Advocate regularily scores their Cabernet 90+ points.

April's recommended web site to visit:

K&L Wine Merchants
My good friend, Dave Rickenbaker, manages the San Francisco store. They are moving their SF location to a larger store on 4th street near the train station around May 10th. Their site is worth a look as they have received many accolades and keep it fresh with new releases and a sizeable inventory.

Till next month!
