WineRelease.com's September 15, 2012 Monthly Newsletter.

Greetings from WineRelease.com, now 1,886 winery listings strong.

Northern Californias Indian summer is still in full force and were doing everything we can to take advantage of the warm summer weather.

Last weekend we were down in Morro Bay for my birthday, spending Sunday at Domaine Degher, where our host (Denis Degher) and hostess (chef Pandee Pearson) treated us to an amazing lunch at their hilltop dining table, overlooking the valley. Pandee served an array of salads, full of local produce (squash, tomatoes artichokes, cranberry beans, etc), fresh burrata cheese, and tangy vinaigrettes; alongside grilled sandwiches. Deniss 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon went perfectly with those sandwiches. After lunch, we partook in two lively games of bocce ball, enjoying more of Deniss wines.

That evening we dined at our favorite local restaurant in Cayucos, Cass House. If you ever find yourself down in the central coast, Id highly recommend that you check it out. Their menu is chock full of garden grown ingredients and locally sourced meats and fish. Each course of the four course menu brought new flavors, new pairings and a made for a great evening.

Mias first Cass House dinner.

Over Labor Day, we had friends in town and took advantage of being tourists in our own city. On Saturday night, we had thirteen at our house for our favorite low-key dinner of Raclette. Raclette is both a type of cheese and a Swiss dining style, where you place the cheese under a heating element, then scrape the melted cheese onto potatoes, pickles, meat, vegetables, etc. (Basically, anything that would taste great with melted cheese, practically anything you could find). This style of dining is a go-to for us, especially for large dinners.

One of the nicest things about raclette is that due to the variety of ingredients, its a great opportunity to try new wines. Saturday of Labor Day was no exception as we pulled out a bottle of the Wrath Tondre Grapefield Pinot Noir (from one of our sponsors), which was a huge crowd pleaser and perfect with the grilled veggies, with a beautiful balance of ripe berries and dark minerals. Wrath has become a favorite of ours this summer and we were happy to share with our friends. Another sponsor wine, Malibu Family Wines Semler Cabernet Sauvignon, (with notes of deep plum and dried herbs) paired nicely with the American Kobe steak, sliced thinly, covered in the melted cows milk cheese. Needless to say, both were sincerely appreciated (and almost too quickly enjoyed).

Over the course of that weekend, we took the group to the farmers market at the Ferry Building, to be greeted by absolutely perfect weather. We also ferried from Fishermans Wharf to Tiburon and enjoyed cocktails and brunch at Sams, sitting on the deck looking over the bay back to San Francisco.

Our group at the farmers market. Almost harder to get the adults in position for a picture than the kids.

Dan, Linnea, and Fiona, on the ferry back to San Francisco. (A little windy)

This current weekend finds us with friends in Stinson Beach, five days of good food, great friends, and even better wine. The place we are staying was built in the early 1900s, is perched up on the hill overlooking the ocean, and weve had a great time out on the beach during the day, then back indoors after the sun sets, dining by candlelight, next to a roaring fire.

You can tell this is breakfast, as its the only meal without wine.

Yesterday we drove 40 minutes up the coast to Hog Island Oyster Company, where we reserved a table by the bay. Our party of 11 consumed probably close to a dozen oysters each (if not more), as well as steamed clams, grilled sausage, and Spanish tuna salad with heirloom tomatoes. One of our sponsor wines, Forlorn Hopes La Gitana, was perfect with both the grilled oysters with chipotle butter and the Spanish tuna salad. Hints of peach on the nose, with a little bit of a spicy finish really brought out the sweetness in the tomatoes and balanced the spiciness of the chipotle.

Here I am, kicking off our day at Hog Island with 4 dozen Kumamotos.

And now, onto the wine.
